In Honor Of Marsha Murray
The day before my mother passed my aunt and I had taken her down to the hospital garden at NYU Langone Medical Center-Tisch Hospital. We wheeled her around a beautiful and serene atmosphere full of life, filled with parrots, koi, butterflies, and a plethora of thriving plants and flowers, her favorite.
After growing quite tired we brought her back up to her room and got her settled in bed. A bit weak, she hesitated for a moment and then said, “the wishing kids are here.” Confused, my aunt and I played it off like she was being silly and gave her the all-knowing smirk that so often accompanied my mother’s brilliant sense of humor. My aunt decided to entertain her a bit further and she inquired as to what my mother had wished for. My mother, quite simply and beautifully said, “a boat full of flowers and a pocket full of miracles!” We acknowledged her simple yet deep exclamation, tucked her in and said our good nights, as we had all week.
Realizing what an extraordinary moment this was my family decided to do some research. They found that “The Wishing Kids” often symbolize the angels that have come to take someone “home.” The next morning we arrived at the hospital to learn that my mother had slipped into a coma in the night and would soon pass away.
It is because of this beautiful moment that I have chosen to name our organization
“The Wishing Kids Foundation!”
